Bearing Model and d/D/B Dimension Cross-Reference Guide

A bearing cross-reference is safest when designation, dimensions and application agree. A partial model match should be treated as a lead for verification, not a final interchange decision.

People and industrial backgrounds are application illustrations; product photography and specifications are identified separately.

01

Preserve the complete marking

Transcribe the full model exactly, including spaces, slashes and suffixes. Also photograph every marked face. The base number can identify a general bearing envelope, while suffixes may change clearance, cage, seals, material, pairing or special construction.

02

Measure d, D and B

Confirm bore d, outside diameter D and width B in millimetres. For paired bearings or assemblies, state whether B refers to one bearing or the complete set. Include tolerances when a drawing or inspection report is available.

  • d — bore or shaft diameter
  • D — outside or housing diameter
  • B — bearing or set width
  • Chamfers, shoulders and adjacent space

03

Check type, arrangement and duty

Verify whether the bearing is deep-groove, angular-contact, tapered-roller or another type. For matched sets, record DF, DB, DT and any preload or clearance suffix. Then compare speed, load, temperature, medium, lubrication and mounting position.

04

Use a controlled approval step

A procurement shortlist should show which fields are source-backed and which remain open. Obtain engineering confirmation of the final designation and arrangement before purchase, especially for insulated, cryogenic, high-temperature or corrosive service.

Frequently asked questions

Final checks before inquiry

Are matching d/D/B dimensions enough for interchange?

No. Dimensions narrow the search, but bearing type, internal design, clearance, cage, seals, materials and operating duty may still differ.

Why should suffixes be retained?

Suffixes often identify configuration or special construction. Removing them can turn an exact requirement into an incomplete base-model match.

What if one dimension is missing?

Provide the complete marking, equipment information and photographs. Keep the missing value explicitly open for measurement or engineering confirmation.
